Getinge Acquires Ultra Clean Systems to Enhance Sterile Reprocessing Offerings

Swedish medical technology company Getinge has announced its acquisition of Ultra Clean Systems Inc., a US-based manufacturer of ultrasonic cleaning technologies. The deal, valued at SEK 170 million (USD 16 million) in cash, will see Getinge take over 100% of the shares of Ultra Clean Systems, expanding its sterile reprocessing offerings.


Expanding Getinge’s Sterile Reprocessing Offerings

The acquisition of Ultra Clean Systems will allow Getinge to significantly expand its offering to sterile reprocessing departments in North America. The deal means that Getinge now has a complete range of process equipment, consumables, and IT solutions. This will enable the company to minimize the risk of hospital-acquired infections by reprocessing instruments, particularly the most complex ones used for robotic surgery.

Getinge’s President Surgical Workflows, StĂ©phane Le Roy, said that the addition of Ultra Clean’s expertise and technology will greatly benefit the company’s global sales reach. He believes that the platform will accelerate the adoption of Ultra Clean’s technologies.


No Material Impact on Operating Profit

According to Getinge, the acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on its operating profit and earnings per share in 2023. The company also expects no material integration costs this year.

Ultra Clean Systems is located in Florida, US, and generated an annual revenue of SEK 90 million in 2022. For nearly a decade, Getinge has been the exclusive distributor of Ultra Clean Systems’ offering in North America. Through vertical integration, Getinge will ensure optimal service continuity for the hundreds of units installed in the United States.
